Zedd

The reason there are no answers to our questions from Zedd is that he is having a much-needed break from music, from the media, and from the world in general. The Russian-German twenty-something born Anton Zaslavski has had quite a year: it all started with a Grammy award for Best Dance Recording at the 56th Grammy Awards, for his track 'Clarity', which was also nominated as EDM Song of the Year and by Billboard as Top Dance Song 2014.

Featuring vocals from Foxes, it’s the sort of hyper-produced pop-dance record that lodges in your brain and stays there for ages whether you like it or not.

Indicative of the producer’s electro-leaning house style overall, the single 'Find You', featuring Matthew Koma & Miriam Bryant followed it up. This one, as well as being big on the dancefloor, also got picked up by Hollywood and was used in the soundtrack for the film Divergent, helping to take Zedd to even more diverse audiences all over the world.

This year Zedd, who was learning real instruments from a young age and includes remixes on his CV of Lady Gaga, Black Eyed Peas, P. Diddy, Swedish House Mafia and Skrillex on labels including Mau5trap, Interscope, and EMI before now, played the MTV Awards as well as Tomorrowland, Ushuaia and Ultra Music Festival.

He also squeezed in gigs in Australia, Brazil, Chile and Colombia as well as a record-breaking show in Vegas, where a reported 11,323 people packed in to XS to catch one of his high impact sets.

As well as his own work, Zedd has become a go-to producer for a range of stars, and has previously penned hits for pop stars like Justin Bieber and Eva Simons. Always happy to send himself up on Facebook and connect with fans in amusing rather than commercially motivated ways, Zedd is a bright new hope for EDM who hopes to move things away from big drops and empty minimalism and towards something a little more discerning.
